Wick Fisher White Welcomed Students For High School Insights Day

Wick Fisher White welcomed a group of local high school students to our office for High School Insights Day, an interactive program designed to introduce students to MEP/FP engineering and provide a firsthand look at careers in the industry.
Led by Senior Project Manager Rachel Innella, PE, HFDP, along with Senior Project Manager Robert Hughes, PE, and Associate Director Jarret Marks, PE, the day gave students an opportunity to learn directly from experienced engineers about the work that goes into designing the systems that keep buildings operating safely, efficiently, and reliably.
Throughout the program, students explored the fundamentals of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering, learned about the tools and technology our engineers use every day, and gained insight into the problem-solving, coordination, and collaboration involved in bringing a project from concept to reality.
The experience extended beyond the office with a tour of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, where members of the Facilities team provided students with a behind-the-scenes look at building infrastructure in action. The tour helped connect the concepts discussed throughout the day with the systems and equipment found in an operating facility.
For Rachel, who led the program, High School Insights Day was also an opportunity to learn more about the students themselves and what they are considering for their futures.
“The Introduction to MEP Engineering Day is as much about showing students how and why we do our job as it is about understanding today’s high school students’ interests, goals, and motivations. We spent a lot of time telling them about our job, but I very much enjoy learning about why these students joined us for the day and how they view their futures in whatever career that ends up being.”
Programs like High School Insights Day give students a chance to explore a field they might not otherwise encounter as they consider potential career paths. By giving students direct access to practicing engineers, real-world examples, and an active building environment, the goal is to help them better understand what MEP/FP engineering looks like beyond the classroom.
We thank the students who spent the day with us, asked questions, and shared their perspectives with our team. We also thank the Facilities team at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia for welcoming the group and providing a behind-the-scenes tour.
